Kitchen Hardware Guide: Hinges, Drawers and Lift-Up Systems

Hardware is the moving part of modular cabinetry. The right question is not simply which brand is used, but which mechanism, load requirement and opening behavior each cabinet needs.

Hinges

Hinges control opening angle, alignment and closing behavior. Wide or unusual shutters may need different hinge quantities or specifications from a small standard shutter.

Drawer systems

Drawer runners and box systems differ in load capacity, extension and soft-close behavior. Match the system to what the drawer will hold rather than specifying every drawer identically.

Lift-up shutters

Overhead lift mechanisms can improve access in some locations but need appropriate shutter dimensions, weight and headroom. They are not automatically better than side-hinged shutters.

Tall and pantry mechanisms

Pull-out pantry hardware can improve access but adds cost and mechanical complexity. Compare it with fixed shelves or internal drawers using the actual items you intend to store.

Record the series, not only the logo

A hardware brand can contain many product levels. A useful quotation identifies the mechanism or series where it materially changes performance or price.
