Interior Lighting Planning Guide for Pune Homes

Lighting works best when it follows the room plan. Adding downlights to an empty ceiling before furniture is resolved can leave worktops dark and circulation over-lit.

Separate ambient and task light

General illumination makes the room usable; task light supports cooking, reading, dressing or working. The two do not need to come from the same fixture.

Place lights from the furniture plan

Bedside lights, study lights, dining pendants and kitchen task lighting should align with the furniture or work surface they serve.

Coordinate ceilings and cabinetry

False ceilings, curtain pockets, tall wardrobes and overhead kitchen cabinets compete for ceiling and wall space. Resolve their junctions before electrical points are shifted.

Think about switching

A good lighting plan also considers how lights are controlled from room entrances, bedside positions and common circulation points.

Use accent lighting selectively

Shelf, cove and display lighting can add depth, but each circuit and driver adds coordination and maintenance. Use it where it supports a clear visual purpose.
